Further developments.

A muddy situation. UCI is, itself, implicated in the USADA charging letter. However, UCI are not wrong, I think, in questioning whether USADA ought to consider acting in this case, given (1) how long it's been since the events alleged occurred, and (2) the fact that the evidence is not a chemical test but the testimony of individuals as to what they heard or saw. The latter is not irrelevant as to what we ought to believe, of course, but overturning important results on that basis alone is something else, I think.

The article is relevant to other threads but also of independent importance.

I think Lance and UCI are gonna be busted. Odds on UCI tries to sacrifice Lance to save self. Really UCI should just admit wrongdoing and go down with Lance...with head held high.

Developments, as someone else pointed out in another thread. Again, things are getting more complicated. WADA has weighed in favor of USADA's continuing with proceedings.

Well, I don't know about Lance going down, but the cheekiness/chutzpah of UCI and it's corrupt head never ceases to amaze me. You would think the idiots, who had no issues with USADA going after Landis, Hamilton et al, would want USADA to hand over its investigative files and investigation of Lance over to it.

Amazing, these UCI clowns. Pat McQuaid is/should be an embarassment to all cycling fans.

I don't pay much attention to this rotting and beaten dead horse of an issue, but am checking in here for my roughly bi-annual catch-up. Am I correct that it all basically comes down to the alleged 2001 (?) Tour de Suisse positive and alleged UCI-complicit cover-up?

If he passed the tests, he's fine, no matter what people say about him. If he failed that Tour de Suisse test, and it becomes known, he'll lose two of his seven titles. I can't imagine a scenario in which he loses more than that, not counting all integrity, credibility, endorsements, etc, but maybe I'm wrong. Can USADA strip him of something based on a standard of evidence lesser than that of a positive test, such as sworn testimony, circumferential evidence, etc?

An educated, unbiased, citable response would be appreciated.

Some more reading on the issue.

It's a very strange one, that's for sure. The UCI risks everything by continuing down this path.

The only reason they are trying to interfere is because of their own corruption and covering their own quilt. McQuaid should resign right now even though he may not have been the primary party involved with the Armstrong dope fixing corruption. The UCI wants the case decided somewhere in Europe in a venue where they can get someone in their pocket. In my opinion this situation should set a precedent. That individual countries WADA and government approaved agencies should have the power to police and investigate the UCI. Otherwise their is no balance of power and the UCI can continue to act as the thugs that they have been with no oversight.
