Hi everybody,

I hail from Humboldt county, California, where the weather is mild and soggy. I'm a lifelong bike commuter (never owned a car), but completely new to the "serious" side of cycling. Whenever I look for advice on bike stuff the forums pop up, so figured I might as well join the fun! Thanks to everyone on here for posting great advice :)

My current bike is an old mystery bike that came to me covered in rust. It's nice and sturdy for going around town, but not so great for my now 10-mile commute. I'm gathering parts to fix up a nice road bike for myself. Never done more than change a tire before... it'll be an adventure for sure!

Welcome my friend! Some times it's just as fun working on the bikes and taking care of them as it is riding them. Ok, maybe it's more fun to ride them, but nothing gives you a more accomplished feeling than taking care of your baby! Can't wait to see what you do on the bike!

Greetings Baytree,
Must be nice to have such nice weather up there in Humboldt CO, but it's plenty hot down here in Apple Valley (San Bernardino CO) in the High Desert of SO Cal. Thats why I leave the house my daily 15 mile ride no later than 6:05 and am usually back home by 7:15 at the latest. SOunds like you are taking on a fun project that hopefully will pay off with tons of fun. Hang in there and enjoy!

Alex
