"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Upgrade question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

About a month ago, I decided that I really wanted to get into road and track racing. Unfortunately, it's quite late in the season. Will any of the races I do from now until the end of the year count towards an upgrade, or does everything get reset to zero on January 1st? In other words, is the number of races/point based on the previous 12 months or year-to-date?

We should have an introduce yourself thread... :p

that makes sense
knew a guy who raced cat5's for 14 years
he showed up 1-2 races each season
curiously, he was a circuit court judge who commuted 300 miles a week

Why, I've been a member all my life...
Been busy at work, family stuff, etc. Not much training but I have managed not to miss a meal.

I've been riding for about 5 years, but I'm new to not being fat. I've been getting stronger and faster over the years, so I figured it's time to do fast things.
Thanks for the quick answers everyone.

Cat 5 points are now from finishing races, not just starting them. New change for 2012.

... the redneck from NC.
the latter makes the former redundant.

the latter makes the former Redundant.
I had a Plymouth Redundant with a Slant 6 back in 79. It was my uncle's but he rolled it and the insurance company totaled it. He bought it back for $200, took the roof off with a cutting torch then welded a beach umbrella stand on the floor. He was mostly drunk when he did the work and set fire to parts of the interior, but it still ran good and the beach umbrella was a great way to start conversations with girls. Of course you couldn't drive it much over 40 MPH without risking the umbrella tearing off. Given that it was almost always foggy and in the high 50's where I lived you got pretty cold even at 40 MPH so we kept the heater going full blast all the time. Problem was the thermostat was bad so sometimes it would blow cold air then you really froze your ass off. The girls we picked up would start complaining about being cold so we'd kick them out of the car and go get someone over 21 to buy us beers. You could use the jagged edge of where the roof got cut off like a bottle opener but for some reason we always bought cans. I think we did that because if we saw the cops we could chuck the beers out into the bushes and retrieve them later. I think we only had a couple of cans bust open.
So yeah, Cat 5 points carry over.

I got pulled over on one occasion, I think when I was about 19...and after a few minutes the cop says to me- "uh, buddy...um...are you kidding me?"
after learning I was drunk, had a suspended license, no registration, and no insurance, he says with a chuckle "man, I honestly dont even know what to do here."
I had traded a MX bike for a 72 (?) Chevelle. It was impounded and I never saw it again.

^ i got pulled over, it wasnt fun. i lost my license. I could not go place without a ride. I live at lesast 5 miles away from most of my friends (in the wrong direction of civilization) :(
Also if you are upgrading based on top 10 finishes from 4 to 3 there is no time frame. As soon as you have 10 top 10s with fields of 30 or more with a total of 25 races. Doesn't matter if it takes you 6months or 6years. Thats what I was told

The 12 month period only applies to points-based upgrades. There are no points-based upgrades from 5->4, only ten finishes. It's all in the rulebook, people. Read it.

Pet peeve.
Why anyone would engage in a sanctioned sporting activity where money is at stake and not know the rules is beyond my ability to comprehend.

i don't anything about this money you speak of. We mostly get extra thick, ill-fitting Velopromo T-shirts.

race fees
bike
wheels
tires
club dues

money at stake
how are any of those things "at stake". You've paid for them already. You own/belong already. At stake implies that there is something to be gained or lost.
