Foo - Any Coleman Stove fans here ?.

OK so rip-off of the "latern" thread, but got me wondering.

I have a 50+ year old Coleman 2 burner gasoline stove. Inherited from my father-in-law.

My wife and I go camping every fall in the north Maine woods and use that stove.

It's beat to crap, dented, dirty, etc... but still cooks. I've been pondering a replacement, but in truth, this guy just keeps on trucking.

Is there anything as good ?,

Do the propane models punch out as much heat ?.

Or just buy another gasoline replacement ?.

I want one real bad ...I like the kind that can run on gas since gas can alwasy be found.How long do u find it takes to boil a qt of water in it?

I bought a vintage single-burner and an equally vintage dual-burner on ebay a few years ago so if another Blizzard of '93 situation ever happened, I'd be able to boil water, make soup, etc, and would have an extra that could be shared with my family.

Not an expert on this, but it seems that while the newer propane and other fuels may offer more heat and maybe easier use, the old white gas stoves are more durable and allow greater fuel flexibility. Some folks I know who camp regularly once told me that buying a single-burner Coleman white gas stove was one of the first things they did when they decided to take up camping as a serious hobby, and here it is X number of years later and the old stoves are still trucking along even after being subjected to all manners of accidents and abuse.

3 burner baby. Anything less is so uncool.

I've had a butane 2-burner for over 10 years. It is easy to use and works very well, I just have to remember to check my butane bottles before a trip. (I also have a butane lantern that works very well too.)

I have a Coleman white gas/gasoline backpacking stove that is, sadly, now obsolete because I lost the proprietary fuel bottle and can't find a replacement with the same threading to fit the pump mechanism assembly. I was a big fan of it when I had the bottle, not so much a fan now since it's useless.

I must be dyslexic, I thought this thread was gonna be about Steve Coleman!

I've got a couple of lanterns and 2 camp stoves (including a "new" Coleman propane stove). This website (http://www.oldcolemanparts.com) is where I go to find parts that are no longer sold. The new propane setups are nice (tree to hold lantern, stoves are thinner, easy to get propone, etc.). I also have two of the "backpacking" Coleman stoves that I used in scouts... these things are indestructible. I now use my Primus Omnifuel or a pepsi-can stove for weight reasons.


Is there anything as good ?
IMO, the only reasons to upgrade:
- Fuel availability and cost
- Propane stove takes up less space (but then you've got a huge fuel tank or multiple portable cannisters)
- Tank + propane tree + lantern + stove is nice because you can easily illuminate what you're cooking
- Propane is considered to be significantly safer

I found a 425E stove at an estate sale for $7. All it needed was cleaned up and fresh fuel. Works like a champ! I keep it handy for cooking in case the power goes out during a storm.
A friend gave me an older 413F stove. Did a refurb on that puppy. Sand, paint, aluminum high temp paint on the burners and manifold. It needs a new tank cap and probably a new generator, but it works. Since finding Old Coleman Parts I know I'm set for parts.

I have a coleman dual fuel....use it for camping when I don't use an alcohol stove, and I also use it to roast coffee beans outside (don't want to roast indoors).
