Foo - Organs donors

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have it checked off on my driver's license, but not likely they'll find an organ that anyone sane would want.
A woman in a diabetes forum mentioned that she is only around to see her 6 year old daughter get a little older, because of a liver transplant. Sounds like a good thing to me.

The woman I mentioned above had a new liver. That one is a bit difficult to do while alive, but I think it would be nice to feel like you could possibly helping out someone.
This topic reminded me of one of those 'people are amazing' stories. A woman needed a kidney, met someone at a party and ...

Here is the opening paragraph.
Mrs Buttigieg offered to donate her kidney just minutes after meeting Manoly Viravong, 45, who had been waiting for an organ for five years.
I guess the moral is, party often.
If I am dead I don't think I will need all the working parts so they can take what they want. If I am alive, kidneys, bone marrow etc for family only.

Not yet. But I have indicated it on my license.
And as mandated by BF regulations, here is your obligatory Python vid (maybe nsfw....blood, screaming, etc):

Haven't donated any yet, but I am on my DL.
Amish organs are hard to come by. They seldom sign their DL.
pipe organs? pump organs?

I have signed up to be a donor since I was 18, and that was 34 years ago. I am a big proponent of organ donation, with the thousands of people who die each year while on the waiting list for a transplant.
In terms of marrow, you can sign up, but marrow donation is the highest match for relatives. For unrelated donors and recipients, the need is greatest for non-Caucasian or multi-ethnic origin donors. My blood bank told me that they have thousands of Caucasian donors with type A+ blood, so the chances that they would ever need my marrow for a non-relative is almost nil.

I know that is checked on my DL. However I intend to live long enough that everything is pretty much worn out.

If someone in congress or senate needs a transplant they'll yank you off life support and throw you in a box or amusement park display.

Are you in this for the money? I understand there's a pretty lucrative market for kidneys.
But my advice would be to start with blood and plasma and sort of work your way up to major organs.

You can donate a kidney or part of your liver and still live to talk about it afterward.

If the OP is a young, attractive, intelligent, educated woman with no hereditary diseases, there is more money to be made in either selling your ova or being a surrogate mom.

Dayum! You got dat right!
I have a childhood friend with some AB+ or AB- blood type.
Worked in the mail room of a Medical University back in the '70s and saw a posting looking for young men with his blood type to become a sperm donor. I'm not sure if it was a paid position at the time but maybe.
20 years later he's on Oprah with a few of his possible 250+ children.
Can you imagine this guy's obit?
"He is survived by his wife, Susan, and possibly 250 children and God only knows how many grandchildren."

I am able to ride my bike and contribute to this forum because a living donor gave me a kidney, (not for financial gain). And I am great full!!!

I figure hey why not when I'm gone. I'd donate a kidney for a loved one if mine was acceptable. I might be getting a donor cornea, but I'm exhausting other treatments first.

Excellent! Miracles of modern medicine!
I was being facetious about the kidney market and the whole organ for hire idea. I know there's a business out there, especially in cadavers, some of it's repellant but some is for good.
I'm glad you are here to testify for the good.

They can have my organs when they cut them out of my dead body.
