Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Pedal mod tip (with pic)

I've got a tip for my fellow forum members who have generic pedals and would like to make them a little easier to get into.

Simply take a grinder or a dremel and cut the edges off the corners of the tab on the bottom side of your pedals. (Does this tab have a name?) Try to take off as little material possible while making the point.

It seems that generic pedals have a squarish tab. It seems that nicer (track and other) pedals have a sharper tab that comes to a point.

Attached is a pic of my pedal of the mod.

This mod came about because I had a hell of a time getting into my pedals when it was wet outside. I know it seems incredibly simple, but it didn't occur to for a long time and once I did the mod, things are so much better. Just thought I'd share.

I believe it's called a flip tab.

I like clipless for fixed. It just fells like a better connection, plus no more messing with straps.

Yes and yes. I've been very happy with both of my grinding mods though. I'm such an astronerd.

With it being sharp, it's easy to flip it. It catches easily on the bottom of my shoe.

Anyway, nice mod. I was trying to figure out something like this myself, I have MKS quills (no tab at all) on my bike right now so I can wear regular shoes on my short commute, but trying to flip them over with wet shoes is a joke. I have to stop next to a building, hold myself up with one hand and flip the pedals with the other. I'm glad someone else can relate.
I'm currently thinking about devising a kick tab I can bolt onto the backside of the pedal - I think butchering a busted set of toe clips would work, if you can visualize what I mean.

I'm wondering if welding a one pound weight on the bottom of the pedal would keep the clip on top?
Just kidding, but I agree how annoying this is.

I did the same thing to the "barb" on my pedal. Not so sharp though... Being an old BMX guy I'm happy to stay clear of more shin gashes.
