I was on a group ride yesterday in which we did approximately 25 miles at a pace of around 16 mph into the wind and 22 on the way back. I glanced at my cycling computer several times and it seemed to be reading OK but I'm not a computer watcher. When I got home I popped the computer, a Bontrager W4 wireless, from its mount and checked the trip data.
50 miles
25.5 mph average
115 mph top speed
D@mn I'm good :thumb:
Any idea what would cause such whacked data?
Rain and high winds shut down my ride today so I didn't get a chance to test the computer.

Well, it's an analog wireless computer, so it's possible it was picking up additional input from someone else's bike.
When I got home I popped the computer, a Bontrager W4 wireless ...Some wireless computers are known for this. They'll pick up radio noise from somewhere (or possibly your friend's wireless cycling computer) and see that noise as additional revolutions of your wheel, so it thinks you're going faster than you really are.
Some headlights make a lot of radio noise and that can be reduced to some degree, but the real fix is to either 1) get a higher quality wireless cyclocomputer -- one that can filter out the noise) or 2) just go wired.

I got a speeding ticket for doing 60 mph in a 30 mph zone. I was going 30 mph. there was a copy behind me w radar and a cop coming toward me w radar at the exact same time. they read each other's radar and doubled the prevailing speed (or something like that). I told the cop that pulled me over I was only going 30 and he said that's what my radar says you were doing. the ticket was thrown out of court. weird huh?

My cheapie wired unit decided My top speed on the commute last week was 199km/hr. So either I'm better than you - or my computer is even more broken than yours - I like the second choice better.
But I'm thinkin skipping the whole deal and NOT replacing it with anything else makes even more sense. Somehow I always show up early anyway - don't need to know all the details why. Leaving early probably has more to do with it than top speed or average speed.
