Good to see people use resources and determination to not only recover their bike, but see the thief brought to justice. The story also mentions a LBS recognizing a crack in a frame? Wow.

That's the main reason I don't want to buy a bike from Craigslist or Ebay. I just have a feeling that a lot of those bikes are stolen.

Unfortunately, the thief will just say they bought the bike off someone else and be back out on the street the next day to steal again. I doubt if he will even be held for 24 hours.

Well...

Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll end up in a cell next to some 8' lump of scar tissue named "bubba" who will look at him and say "You're my little puppy now" for the duration of that 24 hours.
