Just bought this crankset a few days ago, should arrive tomorrow. Looking now for a bottom bracket but don't know the correct taper or spindle length, and would appreciate any help anyone here can offer. Thanks so very much!

these were ISO (or more correctly: supposed to match the Campy Nuovo Record taper).
Spindle length is (according to Sutherland's) probably 114 for a 68mm shell and 115 for a 70.
Take this as a "guideline", measure twice and cut once. ;)

Most of these cranks took an ISO 114mm spindle. As said above you may need to run a 115mm or 116mm if your BB width is 70mm.

The frame has a 68mm shell width, and I have a 115mm Campagnolo cassette-style bottom bracket that will fit it. I'll try that first and measure. Thanks again!

If you have nice BB with a 115mm that fits your frame you should be fine. Bolt everything together and I'm 95% sure everything should work good without problems.

+1, it almost HAS to work, given that the Campag bb is perhaps a bit more symmetrical than the Sugino MW68 spindle and thus the bb's drive-side cup flange can be shimmed out as needed.
Some of the better Campag cartridge bb's are flangeless and fully chainline-adjustable.

How would the width of the bb shell affect the crankset's chainline offset at all though?
I never "got" why an Italian bb used a longer spindle than for the same crankset mounted on a bike with an English bb.
It's not like the rear frame spacing was wider or that the crankarm wouldn't clear the bb cups, so why the longer spindle?
