Commuting - Are you a man, or a ... woman?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It just stuck me that most of the people I've corresponded with here today I've presumed were men, although certainly in most cases there's nothing obvious that would tell me that. So now I'm curious about the gender ratio here, and/or bike commuting in general. I'm not trolling for dates; no need to post a comment while voting. Just curious.
pretty obvious from my user name.
this has been addressed previously. There are lots of women commuters in Washington DC and vicinity.

Judging by your poll, your assumption was right.
On the internet,
42/M/Single = 42/M/Single
24/F/Single = 42/M/Single
15/F/Hot4U = 42/M/FBI

???What the heck??? Merton...sheesh you've changed!
I'm an old guy - 60 years old - and possibly the oldest (??) bike commuter around this part of Atlanta. I've seen a few lady bike commuters. Most bike commuters I encounter look like they're 20-something to 40-something.
Yes. Um...what was the question?

I'd question the accuracy of any results of a poll like this. There are a lot of smart a$$es here.

I'm offended by the lack of options on this post. What if I am both male and female, or neither. This is a biased thread and I'm boycotting it!

Well, I thought about offering an option for "Other", but didn't want to overly encourage the smart-a$$es. If you are unsure, just vote your preference. :)

By the way dude, awesome username. Otters are great, I love spotting them around rivers at home in Michigan.

This is completely off topic, but there's a woman I pass often on my way to the U of Maryland campus every morning, who I call Mary Poppins. She looks British (whatever that means!) and she's always very energetically pushing a baby carriage and smiles at passing bikes. She's about 25 and good looking, but there's something kind of motherly about her.

ya know there are those mini-donkeys around . . .

Well, I thought it was obvious from my name, but I've had one guy assume I was also male... definitely female here. At least, I was the last time I (or my partner) checked! ;)
Female cyclists are just totally hot. I don't care what they look like. They are all hotties.

As of this moment, the poll shows 83 men and 16 women.
I'm one of the WOMEN.
Don't assume commuting is some guy phenomenon. I'm a bus rider now, because it's winter, but as soon as there's no black ice anywhere on my route, I'll be back on my monster machine. One of the (many) reasons I ride is because guys need to SEE us riding.

all male here...that's what my wife says, anyway. ;)
In all seriousness, many women won't commute by bicycle, especially alone, because they're afraid be being attacked. I don't blame them.
It's sad, but that's the world we live in. I thing that every city that has a sizable bike commuting population should have a "safe rides to work" program to maybe help prople try to avoid dangerous and high-crime areas.

True, many women are afraid. The biggest reason for that is the men who think women are second-class citizens at best.
Frankly, if someone were to attempt attacking me, they would be in a world of hurt before they got too far.
I talked to the campus police here to verify, and you are a whole lot safer biking than walking.

Is Sponge Bob a man or a woman, and why is he always hanging around with Patrick Star? Are they a couple?
