I just replaced the WAY over-stretched chain and chainrings on an older Specialized mountain bike running a 7spd. steel cogged freewheel. Only the highest (13 tooth) cog skips as a result, the others work just fine under the highest load I am able to provide them with.
Should I just replace the small cog, or should I assume that close to half of them are close to being problematic?

IF I used NEW rings & chain, I'd probably use a new Free Wheel just for principal.

If you can find a freewheel cog, just replace it.

Too many bikes in the fleet to allow principle to overide economics. Do the same w/my motorized vehicles.
Back when I had one car and one bike, principle prevailed.

If you can find a freewheel cog, just replace it.

If it's a Sachs (Maillard) I might be able to help you out. I know I can't help with SunTour, I'm running a 12t temporarily while looking for a 13t myself.
