Hello everyone,

I own a Giant OCR1 bicycle however the roads where I live are terrible and so I was wanting a bike that was more durable and appropriate for my roads. I want a fixed gear, but wasn't sure which bike I should look into and I was hoping for any advice to help me get started. I would like to build one but I am not sure which frame, new/ used, wheelset, etc. Any help would be much appreciated.

What's your purpose for the bike? commuting or simply road riding?

Sounds like you need a bike that can hanlde bigger tires. Salsa and Surly have quite a few, in addition to a FG.

hes gonna be spending a whole lot of cash if he goes that route. building up a bike is not a good idea for a noob due to finacial costs and the lack of technical know how

I would buy the kilo TT or the WT if you want wider tires (in the link provided above) if they have one available in your size. or the rush hour or messenger failing that.

My purpose for the bike is exercise and fun riding. I thought about a freestyle bike as well, but not sure what to expect with those. I would like something that I could pop a curb with if need be, but offers a nice ride. J looked at recline bikes and purefix but I am not sure what bike is good.

Basically, a bike that can handle rougher roads but not heavy like a mountain bike

Built it to be exactly like you described. Burly, not too heavy, and able to tackle rough streets. In all fairness, you can pop a curb with just about anything, steel frame, 35c tires, decent wheelset and you'll be fine
