i hang my bikes from the front wheels and let them dangle vertically for storage. Two of my bikes have hydraulic brakes, will this be bad for the them?

No. I hang mine the same way.

I would advise to hang your bike vertically with the rear wheel, not front. Why would you want to subject your fork and headset to the stress of the bike's hanging weight, when the rear triangle is so much stronger? Just my opinion, I've never heard of anyone having issues but why chance it.

As for the hydraulic brakes, that should not be an issue regardless of how they hang.

Its easier to deal with a bike hanging from the back wheel ,
because having the front wheel turn and still be on the hook,
refusing to come loose . .. will drive you up the wall . :bang:

Stress from about 30 pounds of static weight? Virtually no stress.
