I've owned the New Fantom Cross and love it to death. I really feel like there is no other bike I'd rather have for $800. I haven't gotten a chance to race it yet though.
I don't have any experience with the Titianium frames but I was really interested in Motobecane Cross PRO Titanium. It's $300 cheaper but I know a lot of people are loyal to Shimano. Because of my good experience with my aluminum New Fantom Cross, if I ever need to upgrade I'd very seriously consider moving into Bike Direct's titanium line.

I have one. I'm very happy with it. Last year was my first cross season. I did 3 races and hope to do more this year. I'm very happy with the bike. I'm switching to tubular this year as well as switching from Crank Bros Candy 3 to eggbeater 3s. I wanted a titanium bike and I thought this was the best deal out there. As long as you know what size you need I don't think you can beatBD. I'm thinking a bout getting the uno so I can do SS races too.
math is fun

As with most of the Bikes direct offerings, it will probably be a good value if you are willing to do go over the bike and check everything. I mean everything. I have seen some terrible installation of good components on bikes direct stuff. Mostly I have just had to re-tension wheels and adjust headsets. If you are an odd size (especially Small) there may be some components poorly chosen for the bike. For example I had to swap the brakes on my girlfriend's 42 cm fantom cxx because there wasn't enough room for the cantilever straddle cable in the rear.
cool, thanks for the replies guys.i was wondering -do you know whats the largest size tires the bike will accept?im thinking id stick some big apples on it if it will take em.im close to pulling the trigger on this.i like the fact that it will accept a rack and fenders in case i decide to use it for touring/commuting.

Chinese Titanium, made in China with a French dead bike companies name on it.
Its a bike , sum of its parts , get it and ride , If a Ti frame is what floats your boat.
want wider than the UCI 33mm width tire, so not racing , look at a Monster cross 29er.

I have one and love it. I tried to mount some Schwalbe Smart Sams in 40 or 45 and they wouldn't fit. I want to say they were 45s, though. I have some tubeless hutchinsons on there now.
