I’m considering a cross frame for next years winter/commuter bike.
My current ride (road bike) has this problem and I’d like to avoid it in the future. Plus I like to put full fenders on.
Are crossers more prone to because of their head tube angles?
Do any of you have a problem with this?

I would guess that a proper cross bike would be designed to not have overlap. There are plenty of slow tricky turns in cross that you woud bail on if you had over lap. I doubt it would ever really be a problem with a road bike, I still wouldn't want to have it though.

I guess I have some overlap on my Lemond Poprad, but its a total non issue for me. I have ridden on very rough rocky twisty desert single track and yes I have bumped my toes on my front wheel three or four times when turning hard to avoid obsticals, but only when going very slow thru a tight/odd turn - in all cases it didn't cause me a miss or affect my balance in any way, kinda like when your foot bumps a rock thru a tight passage, but actually must less of an effect.

I also use this same bike for daily commuting and haven't come close to hitting my toes, you just don't turn the front wheel that much even on quick 90deg road turns.

Does anyone know if the Surly CrossCheck has toe overlap?

I have not notices the toe overlay on my Proprad like I have on my road bike and I got big feet.

Well I am sure it is there on my Poprad. Its a 57cm frame. I am 6'2" with size 12 feet.

I agree that in practice it is a non issue, even on a CX bike.
