Recreational & Family - Finally got my daughter off the training wheels

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It's been a long time coming, with lots of starts and stops and a crash into some rosebushes once, but my daughter who has some fine motor skill difficulties related to a few minor developmental issues is OFF her training wheels.
Last night we (both daughters and myself) went on a ride and went two miles out and then back. I made sure we went by a couple of their favorite parks, the soon-to-open hardware store, a pizza place they like, and a friend's house, just to show them in a way I hope they'll understand that bikes are not just fun but legitimate transportation.

Tonight, all four of us rode our bikes a little ways to a park so that we could have a picnic. Tis was the first outing with all four of us each on jut two wheels. Yay!

We've been out riding nearly every day since, with several of those rides involving ome sort of errand. I want them to think of bikes as legitimate transportation.

It's been a lot of fun. We run most of our errands within a few miles now by bike, which gets us a little bit of exercise and means I don't have to drive the cage.
