I was wondering why not just replace it with a carbon fiber rod, since they're in there anyway. Too much to ask for I guess.

My wife did it and said it's a snap...but she was 13 years old.

In the 1956 Giro d’Italia, Fiorenzo Magni crashed during stage 12 and broke his left collarbone.
Magni refused hospital treatment and continued the race with his shoulder bound with an elastic bandage.
The picture shows the Italian rider during stage 13 holding a piece of rubber inner tube (attached to his handlebar stem.) between his teeth for extra leverage.

I would say you are back on your bike within a week or so.
Good luck!

Aahhh, much better now with no bone floating around in there. Thanks for the well wishes.
The surgeon said that carbon fiber went out with Lance, so that idea didn't get off the ground ...

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Hope the healing comes quickly.
Bone floating around is never a good thing.
The healing has begun.
