Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I spotted this man on 8-23-12 in Sarasota Florida who obviously would be classified as a recreational bicyclist. So would recreational types or competition types be the most aggressive on the roads?

I don't think you can peg aggression to any particular kind of riding. It's a personality thing, not a preference thing.

Aggressive?

I thought that OP's handle sounded familiar... http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/828602-Is-This-Acceptable-To-Do-On-A-Road

Some people, by virtue of an aspect of their appearance may be prone to being treated like a second-class citizen. For example, a short person may as a result of their smaller size become aware that larger people tend to expect them to move aside so the larger person can pass. Another example is that a man may find that women expect he will hop aside for them to pass. As a result of being aware of these expectations that suggest they are the second-class citizen, when in fact they are not, these people may not surprisingly become aggressive. This aggressive behavior may become evident during any activity such as driving or cycling. As a consequence, you will also have the other person who is the bigger person or the person who feels favored in some way because of gender, color or upbringing - they will not take it well when the person they thought was a second-class citizen makes it known that they do not see themselves as second-class. So these self-proclaimed favored types will become aggressive when they a not treated as though they think they should be.

So, what we have is a whole lot of aggressive people, who are that way because some people are too stupid too realize that people should be treated fairly and shown reasonable courtesy no matter what or who they are.

Of course there's that as well. I'd inquire of the OP what the heck is the issue, but I wouldn't want to appear aggressive.

Ah, just saw the other thread. Looks like OP has decided to educate bf about how to ride on roads. May even mean well, but is almost a troll thread.

Could be a commuter...

Howzabout you stick to the MUPs that you like to promote and quit taking pics of dudes on bikes while you're in your truck.

I could tell that he's an aggressive rider solely by looking at the tilt of that trunk bag.

Who is more aggressive on a cycling forum? Is it the guy with no knowledge of traffic laws, or is it the guy with no knowledge of traffic laws?

It seems that as a cyclist in an urban area, I would be more concerned about some A$$HOLE thinking it's ok to be taking pictures (multiple times according to the above linked other post by the OP) while he's driving a vehicle.

With the bike, a couple water bottles, and my weight, I'm peaking about 225 pounds. That distracted driver's vehicle has now become a 3000+ pound battering ram for cyclists, dogs, old ladies, kids....you name it.....

And now the OP wonders why cyclists get aggressive?

Great discussion here. As a former 20 year motorcycle rider you have to be very careful out there on the roads. Too many drivers who are bad at being defensive and paying attention.

I suppose an appropriate response to your fear mongering post would be images of bodies mangled in car crashes. Unfortunately I don't have any on hand.

FWIW, if someone were to take a pic of me while I'm out riding and then decide to 'share' that image without my knowledge or permission, you can bet I'd be blowing up all avenues of contact- voice, email, snail mail, to demand that it be removed.

Gah, one thing worse than aggressive motorists trying to run me down is aggressive IP defenders who stifle commentary with questionable DMCA take downs.

Just crush my skull with that SUV—it's more merciful in the long run.

Hey, I'm not against free speech and expression- I just despise having my picture taken. And trust me, there's not enough eye bleach to undo the damage if my likeness were ever to be released on the unsuspecting.

Anybody on two wheels should be considered aggressive and potentially dangerous. Best give them a wide berth, ideally 3-4 feet or more if the road is wide enough.

Better still, avoid driving your SUV on roads where cyclists are known to ride, to avoid any potential incidents.
