I have a fixxer on one of my SS's, but I've only run it SS. Want to try fixed to see if I can hang...
Where's the best place to find one (16T or 18T) other than ebay? This is for townie, light commute use so it doesn't have to be hardcore. Can I just use a cassette lockring w/ it?
check out harris cycles if you want to buy one or if you aren't in the mood to buy one since you won't be riding the bike much then use a bottom bracket lockring....i suggest the first idea though.

Dumb question. Does a track lockring need a special tool? I have a lockring removal tool for my cassettes, but the track splines seem different from a shimano cassette lockring.
I just used a pair of channel locks for my lock ring.

track lockring tool == BB lockring tool
the Park one sucks for DA lockrings though.

Ideally you want a hook spanner. Channel Lock pliers can't get the lockring on tight enough.

I can't remember, where do EAI cogs fit in the continum of cog quality? I'm looking for a 17 tooth and my lbs says they're hard to come by right now. But they're selling EAI 17 tooth cogs on e-bay.

EAI is the best quality cog there is. Period.

I've never owned and EAI cog, but I can't imagine it being better quality than my dura ace cog.
What would make the EAI better than the DA?

Check with your LBS. They should be able to order one for you. Check the prices at harris cyclery to be sure they aren't charging an outragous price.

I bought a "Wrench Force" hook spanner for $10. Not bad considering "Wrench Force" is a division of Snap-On Tools and is Made in the USA.

EAI > DA since they exist in sizes larger than 16T
any other reasons?
Nashbar has the Soma cogs
