I'm new to the forums and don't really know too much about bikes, so I'm looking for some help. I need to buy a bike for college and am currently checking out the bikes section on craigslist. I'm looking for a single speed bike that is good for commuting. Anyways, is this bike (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/bik/3221444558.html) good (vague, I know, but just answer as you see fit)? Is it fairly priced? If not, what would be a fair price? Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum, and thanks in advance.

Erm. It's just a conversion, I'd try to get it for less than $200 and if you can't; anything from Bikesdirect would be slightly more expensive but multitudes better quality.

I agree that it might be overpriced. Depends on the wheels. I also do not know what is going on in Sandy Ego right now re prices. Some freaking hipster trustafarian might get all over it for $300.

I do not agree that anything from BD will be multitudes better quality. Not even close. (It is probably Ishiwata tubing.)

That bike is worth paying $300 for, compared to everything you can get new on BD and what I saw on SD craigslist. People have a strange aversion to "conversions" even though most new "track bikes" have very similar geometry. But that is a fine built bike, and from what I can tell it has parts that will be nice for what you plan to do with it. The only thing is if you plan to keep riding it as a fixed gear you really should get cages for the pedals. Its only another $20 or so.
