I just noticed after checking my chainring bolts that I have a bit of play going on. The crankset rocks back and forth up and down barely. Not sure if I just need to tighten down the crankset more, whether the bottom bracket is messed up or what.
Any help would be appreciated.

What crankset/BB are you using?

Shimano RD crankset, 130BC, 170cm
BB is stock from a 1984 Schwinn Le Tour

Ha! Did you edit to include all the details or am I just blind?
I'm assuming - unless the square taper interface on your crank arms is damaged from overtightening or riding around with the bolts too loose - the play is coming from the BB.

Thats what it looks like. I just wanted a affirmation of some sort. I was only riding on loose bolts for ~.5 miles and it was quickly fixed, not skid stops or anything while they were loose too so I doubt its crankset damage.
Been riding the same cranks and BB for several years without anything until now. Any thoughts on a nice BB? And while I'm at it the only other stock part is the headset. I was thinking a Chris King but I've been out of the game on parts for quite a while.....

To get a good chainline with that crankset you'll need to use a Sugino 103mm BB (model CBB-103).

Right on, any thoughts on headsets?

Tange Levin always works. Velo Orange makes a nice threaded headset too if you want to be a little more fancy without breaking the bank.
