Thinking of getting one and wondering who has one, what brand and what they like / dislike about it? Got one? Chime in!

A tent that pops up... this thread has lots of potential.

I have one but I couldn't tell you the brand. It was on sale at Sam's club or somewhere, and we use it when we have family bbq's or whatnot that get too big. I have some other experience with them from a former job, and the cheap ones all have one thing in common; lack of weight. It's better for transporting obviously, but when you've basically got a big sail in the air, you want the heaviest one you can get. Besides that they're mostly the same in my experience.

Stake and guy it or you will be sorry.

This. And even then be ready to take it down if it gets really windy. I had one of those accordion style versions that packs nicely in its own bag (~$100 IIRC). Loaned it to my sis who promptly left it out in high winds (nothing real crazy but prolly gusts of 30+). It got trashed.

Did Sis buy you a new improved one or did you just chalk it up in the "things Sis owes me" ledger, like most of us. :D

The latter of course.

I have a couple different canopies (I think 3 now, but there might be one more in storage) and which one you want to get varies widely based on what you're going to be using it for.
-The first one I have is a very plain EZ up. At this point it is ~10 years old and still in pretty good shape. It'll fly away if you're not careful though and honestly the years have taken quite a toll on the structure. Probably the best if you are gonna use it on occassion and in light weather.

-The next one is a steel frame canopy with a thicker canvas. I think I got this one from Sam's Club something like 3 years back. Super sturdy and looks like it is fairly new. I use this one for worse weather conditions (wind/rain) and haven't really had a problem yet. I make sure to tie it down somehow because even though it is heavy duty all of these things are basically a giant kite.

-Lastly, my favorite. I have a custom canopy that quite frankly is pretty cool. I got it from Las Vegas Printing last fall for an event with my company and it is pretty cool. I don't have any pics of them myself, but my canopy is their example on the website. http://www.lasvegasprinting.com/Custom-Canopy-Printing.html. I would only recommend this for professional purposes. 1) it costs more than a generic canopy and 2) if you use it too much it gets tattered and loses the high quality that made it nice in the first place. So far it has held up well, but I think I've only used it 3 times and that was all in good weather.

Hope that helps

I'm looking for one as well, for my trackdays. :) I think I'd like a 15 x 10, but I'll probably start with something smaller.

I had an EZ-Up, which we loved... a BIG wind picked it up, sent it sailing up a hillside and into the woods (it was staked AND weighted down. It was a seriously big wind!!).

Anyway, I would suggest you cruise the yard sales for one. They can be had for a song after people use it once & twice & decide it's not worth the aggravation!
