But the best line is from the father, (with look of shock on his face): "He's shaving...he's shaving his legs."

Amusing bit of trivia I read about Paul Dooley, (actor who played the father): In college, he minored in Italian.

I worked with a guy who had gone to IU-Bloomington.
He scoffed at the rock quarry swimming scenes.
His exact words: "NOBODY ever wore clothes there!"

Great tribute page!

I still have a hat pin, hat and water bottle from the Coor's Classic. I grew up in Colorado Springs and really enjoyed being a spectator for the Classic.

Kiitos!
Have you seen the movie in Finnish?

I read once that in the Italian version, they distinguished the English vs Italian dialogue as Italian vs Venician dialect (Team Cinzano spoke Venician)

I saw it when It came out -as many of us, it inspired us.
I was like 12-13 and I built my first roadbike then and rode it all over maryland, still have it back home.

I now have the movie on dvd.

I think i can get the vespa detail correct on your page- have to watch it today.

I see someone in the comments on your site said that Fairview Elementary is in the film. It is not. I went to Fairview from 80-86. The view in the scene with Cyril jogging and Dave riding does not include Fairview, it includes the old Templeton Elementary building. That building was torn down and replaced with a new Templeton School sometime in the late 80s or early 90s.

They are walking on the N side of Hillside DR heading west. My Cousin's grandmother's house is in the scene as they walk past the school and you can see the neighborhood.

I grew up in Bloomington. I love watching Breaking Away. The film really made cycling popular in Bloomington. It also reminds of what the town was like when I was growing up. It's a lot different now...

This movie was a total gateway drug for me.

My older brother as well, which trickled down to me. He went and picked up a 70's Coppi shortly after seeing the movie. that was the first 10 speed that I lusted over.
