what are your favourite clipless pedals to ride, and why do you like them the best?

All my opinions are "clipless".

No really - like SPD's (road and MTB). Always have - always will.

no plastic
easy to adjust.
but, they're a bit heavier but i've never broken one unlike LOOK's

I love my eggbeaters, totally brainless operation - no trying to flip anything over while the pedals are moving.

i like looks, but i've ridden my friend's ride with eggbeaters and those will be my next choice. anyway, i have clips on right now. winter.

i like time ATACs. have been considering eggbeaters recently, only because my shop has a set that we've had forever, and i'm sick of looking at them in the display case.

eggbeaters and shimano 540s. i've heard good things about the frogs and atacs, too. as with many things, much is determined by personal preference.

I've got some eggbeater candies on my ride right now and love it. I've riden on frogs before, they're kinda nice, but its like riding on ice cubes, really wierd, WAAAY to much float for me.

Between my one messenger friend, my bike hippy friend, and me we haven't seen a busted pair. I just got mine but the hippy has had his for three years or so and hasn't been able to trash them.

I used to be worried about the possibility of clipping out with clipless! Its funny to think back on such things.

Speedplay Frogs!!

Mucho float (a little odd at first, but now I can't imagine cycling without it), no release tension. I love mine.

Shimano 540's. Eggbeater cleats wear out too quickly in messer use, and spring tension is too slow for heavy skips.

I'v mixed opinions about ATAC's though - they supposedly jam bit easily and sometimes do not open, so if you are hopping on and off as in messenger riding, they are not the best option. Still - no first hand experience on those.

I'll give TIME Impact road pedals a try come summer.

Been riding Time ATAC's for years and never have had this happen. Lots of people riding them around here and they've never had it happen either. In fact, the reason so many people ride them around here is their reliability. You can pack them with mud and still get in and out of them. The way they are designed, there is no way they could jam from street use. I don't know where some of this mis-information comes from :rolleyes:

i was a frog for years, dyed in the wool.

but then i discovered eggbeaters. now i have eggbeaters on all my bikes, road, fixed, and mountain. they are cheaper than frogs, the cleats are cheaper, and they last longer (no plastic) as long as you have a grease gun.

long story as to why i have so many sets of pedals . . .suffice it to say that crank bros is a very good company that stands by its product.

I tried ATACs for a day and didn't like them. They engage and disengage nicely, but I wanted them tighter and you can't adjust them by design.

Actually, I still have them. Barely used. I was going to sell them on ebay, but I would let them go cheap if anyone here wanted them. PM me.

did you swap the cleats? they are assymetrical and depending on which shoe you mount them you can get different release points.

another vote for ATAC'S. I was using spd's but when they would clog w/mud and snow they would become impossible to engage.i've been riding ATAC's om my mtb's and now on my iro w/o any problems. i've never had a problem unclipping or jamming up like described above.

Eggbeaters here...the regular ones, not Candy. No matter where crank or pedal is, you can always step on it and go with no worries about flipping over the pedal to get clipped-in. The cleats wear a bit quicker than some, but you'd rather have the cleats wear out than your pedals so it makes sense to have softer material cleats.

Yeah, I tried that, but they still felt too loose for me. It's just a personal preference I guess.

I love my LOOK 5.1s Love them. Nice float, solid feel and they work very well with my Shimano SPD carbon shoes. Very rigid sole and a firm hold on the foot make me feel very well connected to the crank and it feels like I have no dead spots in my cadence at all.

Speedplay X's are nice but hard to walk on the cleats.

i got a pair of eggbeaters recently on ebay. i've had 2 other pairs of SPD's and i will never go back, i like the 4-sided entry thing a lot. can's speak for frogs though.

are there any companies that make shoes for clipless that actually look cool? all i've seen have been kinda goofy.

i picked up a pair of eggbeaters but i don't know anything about them and i need to find cleats. are all the eggbeater cleats compatible? i checked the website, but couldn't verify.

can's speak for frogs though.

frogs are good. i use them with a mtn bike shoe, which is good for winter and decent for walking around in. they are the easiest most intuitive pedal i've used so far, and they have a nice flat surface which makes cleaning easy. my only gripe is they don't engage solidly enough sometimes and my foot flies off when i think i'm connected. rarely, but still.

i think the quattros have their own cleats, not certain though. if you're using a road shoe with the eggbeaters i recommend the road cleats, they come with 2 pads on the side to protect the cleat while walking. ah those clever little people over at crank bros...

i can't say enough for my candy sl's. i'd never used clipless before i got them, learned the new technique in like, 2 minutes, and i love em. PLUS! they're blue.

Picked up a pair of Xpedo spd knock offs from the LBS. Cheaper and lighter than Shimano's flagship 959's. I have ran the Bontrager spd's for some time but had mud and snow issues with them. Shimano SPD-R 's are awesome just not double entry and walking with the pontoons in the winter sucks.

I think the attachment part is the same, but you don't get the benefit of the larger surrounding platform. In a pinch, you could probably use regular eggbeater cleats on road shoes to fit quattros, but it might be more difficult with the larger tread of mountain shoes.
