How do you tell what tire sizes will be compatible with a particular wheel? For example, what width tires can you use on 24mm rim for example?

Most measurements given for rims are for the height of the rim so Make and model of the rim will help----And size of the wheel (26"-700c etc)

Unless you can measure the width of the rim and that would be internal sizing.

Sheldon admitted that the compatibility chart was arguably overly conservative, but you will never go wrong complying with it.

Keep in mind the Sheldon Brown chart uses inside-width of the rim. Most rim widths stated are outside width.

You could use any tire 700x28 or larger. I have a 24mm wide (outside width) Velocity Dyad rim. I've used everything from a 700x32 to a 700x47.
