Howdy,
Xray and me took his Pursuit out again today, this is the second time we've riden a tandem together.
On the way out of our office one of the EE types saw us and said "Do you know how gay that looks, you two on that bike..." beside that we had a great time. Our average speed was up around 22 mph for 20 miles (54:44) our top speed on a flat was about 29 and the down wind leg we traveled 25+ for most of 10 miles.

I have gotten called gay many times while on a tandem, I just challenge those guys to a race, and all of a sudded Im not so gay anymore.
Thats pretty decent for the second time you've been on a tandem. Every time i ride our tandem, nomatter where im going its just that much better than a single bike.

We've embarassed quite a few riders in Dallas, but alas, after several months of inactivity (busybusybusy!) We are sadly out of shape. Today we took the Santana out and fought the wind for about 33 miles. Didn't perform anything like we used to, but we'll figure out how to get back into the groove.

I would love to ride with a Female partner, but the problem I have is that I ride as stoker. To find a female with Stuarts Strength would be very difficult and she would have to be built,To coin a phrase most of us know, like a S*%^ house door. Now that is something I could not contemplate. No matter how much leg and arm strength she would have, I don't think I could take the sympathy from the Mountain bikers for being the insignificent "Hen pecked" partner. If anyone wants to call Stuart and I gay, They would have to be very fit to be able to get away from us on the trail, or so big that we would offer them a chance to find out how "Masculine" you have to be to ride our locals Hills On the Mountain Tandem.
That was said Tongue in cheek, as I do know of a couple of "Mixed" tandem teams that will walk all over us out on the trails. I see nothing wrong in male Teams, other than the fact that they have to be thick skinned to be able to take the "Gay" comments. Our only reply so far is to "Invite" them to "Chase Me", and then watch them struggle to get anywhere near us. For some reason, they don't make the same comment again.

Years ago we had a mother/daughter team (ages +/- 60/35) that tandemed. A gruppo of local hotshot single racers taunted them a bit . . . the 'girls' kicked in the afterburners and left singles with tongues hanging out! 'nuf said!
Howdy,
xray and I at the ripe old ages of 52 and 45 have gotten way past the "Your Gay" stuff. And like it has been pointed out many times on this thread, we just invite them along, of course it's "too cold", "too wet", "too stupid" etc. Oh Well, we like it and we're not gay.

I rarely take the time to worry about what other people think or say. Substance is far more important than image to me. That said, I know it was only your 2nd time out, but you gotta pick up the pace!
Howdy,
Your point is well taken, I hope we can get the average up. We only ride it once every other week or so. Maybe we'll start riding more as spring time comes around, of course it's xrays ride and he has to balance it's use between me and his family.

Funny. I live in what is reputed to be the most conservative county in this entire red state. My partner(s) and I deck out in full lycra gear in all its Hi-vis glory, with all the bells and whistles. We invariably elicit nothing but positive, friendly comments, even though I always expect the opposite. Not completely sure why. Thanks, Lance...
