Classic & Vintage - Campagnolo 8 speed Record vs Veloce Rear Derailleur

I am looking for a new rear Derailleur for my 8 Speed Bianchi. I am replacing a Mirage dr. I have only been able to find two for sale. either a New old stock Record Ti 8 speed or a used Veloce. The price difference is pretty significant like 5x as much. Is it worth upgrading to the Record dr or will the Veloce work fine? My front Dr is Veloce.
I had the Veloce on a Bianchi, and it never let me down, always functioned smoothly and I thought it was great. Of course I am very particular with cleaning and always treat my gear well. I say go Veloce and save some money.

I'm in the process of building-up a frame and I went with Veloce. I originally planned to go with Record, but after shopping out the parts, I couldn't justify the out-of-sight prices for anything that said Record on it. But as far as the Record being worth the extra money, I can't say.
Veloce bits look good and have a good reputation...

I've got Record on one of my regular riders and Veloce on the other. Both work great. I assume that the Record is lighter but haven't bothered to weigh anything or look up the weights. If you have Veloce on the front, why not match it and save some money?

Is there a reason you have to have an 8 speed rear derailleur instead of a newer one? Is this that pre-2000/post-2000 issue?

In few cases, would I recommend the Record Ti over the Veloce.
In fact, only if you're trying to match a set, in my opinion.
For the difference in weight, take a sip of water from your water bottle and spit it out. There, even.
For the difference in price, get a new Blu-Ray player to go with the Veloce.
Cool thanks guys. I picked up the veloce dr. It turns out its new and never been used. Pretty happy as I could only find like 3 8-speed drs anywhere on the web. I suppose my 1997 bianchi tsx is at a very peculiar time stage between the modern carbon/al and the standard steel frames. The 8 speed must really be from a by-gone era as there are so few parts avalible.

There are lots of wheels available, most of the time, but yep, the 8-sp Campy stuff seems to have a dearth of RD's.
How many in a dearth?
Seriously, I used a 7800 DuraAce (10 speed) I lucked into for my 8 speed Veloce hub rig. Fixed the index difference with the "hubbub" cable trick. No, it's not matchy-matchy, but it works, with a Chorus FD and Athena Ergopower shifters.
I also noted the dearth (and resultant higher prices) of 8s Campag der's.
Another peeve of mine is in those 8s rear hubs, with the bulged hubshell. The rather centrally-located, pressed-on axle cone is always bad on the wheels I come across, with no repair parts (cone) available. I thus have to regard those hubs as junk.
