Classic & Vintage - To the C&V'ers in the Southwest U.S. (Hurricane Isaac)

Best wishes to all of you and your families/friends. I realize that our member group is quite diverse in nationality, but a lot of the regs are in Miami/Florida/The South in general.

We are keeping positive thoughts for all of you over here in Arizona, and the rest of C&V land - during what could prove to be a very trying time.
If it is not too much to ask (or if it is even possible), could some of you update us during the next few days to give us some real (and trusted) updates on how you are all doing on the other side of the nation.

An Update for ya,
All is well on my side of the storm "Mobile Alabama". It pretty much missed us entirely, it's actually lovely outside right now. New Orleans is yet again, getting the brunt of the storm, right on the 7 year anniversary of Katrina too! I don't think we have much to fear though, this hurricane is pretty soft-core when compared to others. Nola has shored up their levies so I expect they will fare well, thanks for the love and care guys.

I'm in Pensacola, Florida, NW most county at the Alabama state line. Lots of rain and wind right now and a tornado put down several trees in town about 1730 this afternoon. We are having some localized and coastal flooding right now. Isaac is a Cat 1 right now, 80 mph sustained winds and central pressure is dropping. Expect a bad rainfall event here, will be praying for the folks in New Orleans and all of Louisiana this evening. Everyone stay safe, please. Do not get out in a storm unless it is an emergency, no reason to go rubber necking or getting in the way of first responders.

Berylbite, watch out the bands are headed you way shortly. do not underestimate a Cat 1 hurricane, ever.

Thanks for your kind concern, we're in the clear in S. Florida now. The worst of the storm was on Sunday, but it was raining heavily for the last three days. I didn't put the shutters up due to the forecast not looking too grim, but did get the emergency supplies in order. After the first 36 hours or so of rain, we got a bit stir crazy and ventured out for a drive. Conditions weren't too bad between the squalls, and I didn't see any damage or power outages. I snapped a photo at Ft. Lauderdale beach, where the waves were pounding pretty hard and breaking way out on the outer reef.

Texas is on the 'good side' so outside of some rain and a northerly wind, there'll be minimal impact for us.

The Gulf Coast community, while we share a "Better them than us." mentality, feel great compassion for those effected because we all personally know how bad things can be.

Isaac, isn't a big storm wind-wise, but it's a slow mover which means lots of rain. It may also create a larger storm surge (like Katrina and Ike) than it's rating suggests.

We skated here, strong winds and a lot of rain is all so far. A few tornadoes south of our house, minor coastal flooding and a few downed trees. Prayers for Louisiana members, supposed to take 36 hours to move through, hope the levees hold up this time.

Bill, I head a report that a levee had failed earlier this AM. Turned out to be false, the water was coming over the top of the levee.

Wow, the storm is just grinding along at 6mph now, that's a brutal pace!

Very slow and wet storm is Isaac! It has stood still a couple of times now. These types of hurricanes cause a lot of problems with flooding. The levee in Plaquamines Parish was topped, not breached. The USACE is talking about having to breach a levee intentionally along the river, not sure of where. 12' of water in the homes where the levee overtopped early this morning. They would breach ahead of a place where they thought the levee would let go into a populated area to try and bleed off some water volume.

My prayers for the people in Louisiana and Coastal Mississippi for their safety and for no loss of life.

Greetings from Prairieville, LA (just south of Baton Rouge). As of 6:30 p.m. CDT 8/29 Isaac is sitting on top of us dumping lots of rain, but amazingly enough we still have electricity/internet on my street. Front yard looks like a pond and we have one large limb down. Otherwise, we're doing okay (so far).

The eye passed right over us a few hours ago, moving very slowly and bringing a LOT of wind, but not much rain. We were out of power for about 8 hours. South Terrebonne and Plaqumines parishes aren't doing too well, some flooding and more severe wind damage. N.O. had a lot of wind for a long time, knocked out a lot of power lines and trees.

Most of the houses on our street had minor roof damage, nothing major that I know of in Lafourche or north Terrebonne. Thanking God it didn't strengthen more than it did. Wind is still blowing outside, been a full 24 hours now... getting tired of it! :)

Good to hear reports from LA, where the brunt of the storm is. You all will be okay, I know it.

Well, it looks like I'll not even have any rain from Isaac. Prayers go out for those effected. Reports this AM warn that the levee between Slidell and Lake Pontchartrain might top-over.

Some early analysis of Isaac by the experts indicate that the storm packed Cat 1 winds, Cat 3 level storm surge and because of it's slow pace, Cat 4 level rain. The only good from this storm is that it'll certainly help with middle America's drought.

Thankful that NW Florida escaped Isaac's wrath with some rain and a little wind. Prayers for all the Louisiana members and all others in the path, this is one very wet storm. The slow pace is allowing so much rain and the storm surge is building up to extremes levels. I hope no additional levees top as did Plaquemines Parish and that the flood ways and levees do not breach. Every one stay safe and sing out if we can do anything to help in any way. I am not that far away and my truck is 4X4!!! prayers for everyone are going out.

been watching the news for the past few days and glad for the most part
it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Do we have any members in South Terrebonne or Plaqumines parishes?
I know we have folks up in Slidell area.
I have family on the Fla. Coast at Eglin AFB, and in Jacksonville.

Up here in Northern Texas we're expecting some impact, probably an inch of rain if we're lucky.
East Texas looking at much more.

I'm north of Lake Charles, and we got a little wind and a little rain, that's about it. Of course, that little wind was enough to knock down an old tree which took off about 12' of roof overhang...1/2" CDX plywood is $16/sheet now! I know how I'm spending part of Saturday. :(

The winds have picked up here with the forward movement bringing the south winds to this quadrant of the storm's field. I got blown around big time riding this afternoon. Down in town on Pensacola Bay the winds were really blowing hard. Got blown to the side walking out of City Hall after a meeting. Very little rain today a few scattered showers is all. Heard that a dam is failing, at 50% failed right now, and they are looking at a large evacuation there. (East Louisiana and West Mississippi, central part of both states.

I'll be glad when we know all the BF/C&V members are okay and their homes are still safe. Everyone take care and please be safe.

Bill, The dam near McComb, Mississippi has had a couple of controlled breaches performed. This is one of those gut wrenching moments because breaching the dam will add to Louisana's woes, but Mississippi has no other choice.

All fine here in Rayne, near Lafayette. We got some 40-50mph gusts, but not a whole lot of rain during the actual storm. We actually got a real soaker this afternoon after the storm was already gone. Hopefully everyone East of us is doing fine and no big home damage.,,,,BD

I think buldogge is in for some much-needed rain.

Irene sat on us like that last year, 15 hours of rain with 50mph winds (not really damaging).
The problem was, the crews wouldn't go restore power until it was over, and I found that America can only about 12 hours of no internet, no TV.

Glad most folks were OK, but looks like those SE parishes have a lot of flooding. I guess we'll see what effect it has on the Mississippi in a week or so. My friends in Long Beach came out of it pretty well, after having to rebuild from Camille and Katrina. I see one of the fatalities was a guy that climbed a tree and then fell out....??

I grabbed this photo from the NHC website yesterday, it's interesting to see that the outflow of the storm reaches all the way up beyond Newfoundland:

My bad, the body of ware with the failing dam is Lake Tangapahoa (sp?) not the river. They are still watching the places that have failed and evaluating whether or not to move everyone out before it does fail completely. I have a lot of family, on my mom's side, in Mississippi and this one has been nerve wracking for us.
