I am new to BMXing and I like to Dirt Jump and Street Ride, I can already 360 jump after a week of bmxing on a POS BMX. The wheel is F**KD now so i figure its time for a new bike. What are the differences between a Street and dirtjump bike besides the tyres? I have seen a few cheap mongoose villans and mischiefs for sale 2nd hand. I see there is a range of cheap Giant bikes out now. Are they any good?
Any other recomendations of cheap BMXs would be appreciated. I also live in New Zealand so buying a bike online is pointless because of high shiping costs.
Cheers - Ben

You might want to mailorder from these guys, as they're based in Australia: http://www.totalbmx.com.au/totalbmx/totalbmxwelcome.html

Go into the catalog, and look for completes. I'd recommend either a Fit Pro or Team.; the higher grade Specialized's are good as well, but they're unavailable for some reason.

So out of the Modem and the Rythem Giants. Which would suit my riding best.
Street and Dirt Jumping. Plus I dont want the frame to be as heavy as a truck.

Rythym has:

colour: Raw

frame: New 2003 Dirt Jump Style Frame
cranks: 3 piece crankset
rims: 48H Alloy Rims
brakes: Rear U-Brakes
stem: 4 bolt Ahead Headstem
pedals: Alloy Platform Pedals
other: 1 front/1 rear peg

Modem has:

colour: Prima Grey
user: Entry level street/ramp rider
frame: New 2003 Street/Ramp Style Frame
cranks: 3 piece crankset
rims: 48H Alloy Rims
brakes: Front and Rear U-Brakes, Odyssey Rotor front
stem: 4 bolt Ahead Headstem

Only diffrence is what they are used for and the modem has 2 pegs on front and rear which the rythym doesn't and the modem has Odyssey Rotor Front which the Rythym doesn't. hope this helps.

Why do people like the fit team? They have 10mm front axels dont they, isnt 10mm ment to be crap?
My friends got a '05 fuse 3 specialized and its prety cool but i only intend to be spending about half or less if possible than a fuse 3 is worth.

Just for future referance, if one of your wheels gets messed up you do not replace the whole bike. You might not even replace the whole whell, maybe a truing or something. I guess if it was a crappy bike all together then thers no reason to try and fix it I guess.

I know three riders out of about fifty who still use a 14mm axle on the front. If it bends, make sure to replace it with a hardened axle (Kink, Standard).
