Since adopting two little orange fluffballs in May:

Mango (left) is nearly 10 pounds, while Pumpkin (right) trails behind at 8 1/2 pounds. We're hoping Pumpkin catches up- he's feeling quite skinny. We don't know their ancestry (parents were feral barn cats) but we think they're part Maine Coon and part vacuum cleaner. They haz big appetites.

Ivan sez: theyz look pretty awesum kittehs.

omg. They. Are. Beautiful.
We went to a pet adoption fair a few years back and there were two kittehs that looked just like yours. Young long hair orange tabby brothers. They were so sweet. We held them for a while. But we have our quota of two kittehs already so we couldn't adopt them. We still talk about those brothers sometimes, hoping they found a special home.

Awwe. This thread makes me want a new kitty so bad. The last one we had was so small that even the smallest collar had to go around his front leg... Now he's probably 30 pounds. My other cat, who we had to put down 2 weeks ago, :( was super skinny all his life, and he lasted 20 years, so it's probably nothing to worry about as long as he's not super lethargic or obviously unhealthily skinny.

I haz a sads. One of our previous pair lasted 19 years, and never weighed more than 7 pounds.

We're getting a little scared of Mango- if he keeps growing at this rate, we may saddle him.

Jeff, they're adorable. Pumpkin is not too skinny, he's just right. We've become so used to seeing overwieght cats, that when we see one that is ideal body weight, we think they look too thin. Don't go overfeeding him and making him too fat (please). I'm begging you as a veterinarian.

Wow! Those are some beautiful cats. As far as weight goes, I had a lovely tuxedo cat named Tiger who was quite big but never heavy. He was more of a rangy cat but he ate like food was never showing up again (impossible, it was a joy calling him and showing him his fav can of food and listening to the crazy chirps he made as I set his full bowl of food in front of him). It's been 20 years since he died and I still miss him.

Ahhh cats, they are incredible. Ok, Tiger slapped mugs off the table, he chewed the corners off my school books and punched any other cat who dared sit on my lap. Still, loved the brute!

They are beautiful. They look about right in the healthy range. Pixel tips the scales at ~9.5 lbs, but she looks much bigger because of all the fur....

Those long hair orange barn cats just run big. I think they have a big chunk of Maine Coon or Norwegian Wood Cat in them. I had one that ran a little over 17 pounds. If I was sitting and he wanted my attention he would reach up and tap my shoulder.

No worries. We watch what they eat (literally!). Pumpkin's super finicky at feeding time, so we have to hide his food from Mango. Mango inhales everything in sight, like a black hole.

Dang... that looks more like Mango than Pumpkin. Definitely not one of mine, though.

I need to put this on ICHC, but I can't figure out a caption:

"Tiger" the cat lived in the hardware store next door to the bike shop where I worked. (B&H Cycle- as in Balk and Hagemeyer.) He was quite the town cat. When he died, he got a write-up in the LA Times:

When I was 4, our Siamese had a litter of kittens. One was an orange cat by named Claude. Where I got the name I have no idea. He was my cat, a constant companion for 18 years. Slept by my side nearly every night for those years. It's still hard for me to look at orange kits.

From left to right: Gwen, Spencer, Maggie (the head cat) and Jacob.
Jacob was part of a feral litter cat that was abandoned in Encinitas then rescued by some feral cat protection group and dropped off at our vets for care. They never came back to pick up and release them.
My wife was taking Maggie in for a checkup and Jacob was totally engaging her from the cage he was in. The vets nurse commented that he hated people and never engaged anyone since his arrival.
We were morning the loss of one of our geriatric cats that had died weeks before and having heard the story about Jacob from my wife, I went over to the vet and adopted him as he "picked" Beky (my sweetie pie). He HATED me...I was greeted with the laid back ears, "I hate your guts", teeth baring with hiss of hisses.
After the long ride home (with much meowing, hissing, arching...just hate in general) I released him into the garage and brought Beky out to meet her new baby (a total surprise to her). He would not come out of his hiding place until Beky started playing with him...a string on a stick as I recall. Once he came out of hiding, he looked at her and immediately rubbed on her leg; "My human!" I could have sworn he said.....
He's full grown now, has warmed up to me, and is just the biggest, most lovable lug you could imagine.
Now to the point of this tale....when I say big, I mean BIG! This guy tops out the scale at over 16 lbs. and he's not fat (unlike his daddy). He's like miniature poodle size, I kid you not. Orange tabby's are just the best!

That sounds just like the orange tabbies we used to have. They were brothers as well. One was skinny (9-11 lbs) and the other was big (17lbs at his heaviest). Great cats!

Ivan, pictured in my previous post is a good 18lbs, and he's on a perpetual diet now to stay there. He was at about 21lbs and we had to put him on the kitty starvation diet. He loudly protests the lack of free access to food, but his health is much better now that he's slimmed down. I don't know his background, but he looks and acts mostly Maine Coon Cat. He's 12, we've had him for 10 years.
