Does anyone think a good quality hardtail would be able to handle and the roots, drops, rock gardens etc?? Also. What is the vibe/atmosphere/layout generally like?

When you say 'quality hardtail,' are you meaning a burly, freeride hardtail or a dirt jumper? If not, leave the hardtail at home at figure on renting. Yes you could ride your HT there but you would miss so much by doing so.

I'm thinking of renting a dh MTB but I have been interested in testing my current bike. But seriously though, could a Trek 4300 disc's Alpha Gold Aluminum could handle it. I just don't want any cracks and whatnot in my frame. That's all.
Well I assume you're talking about the resort. Don't waste time with the Trek 4300 at Whistler. The main issue isn't the frame getting damaged, the issue is the geometry of that bike sucks for riding DH.
