Tandem Cycling - Any suggestions for a stoker stem replacement?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just bought our first tandem and want to change the stoker bars. That requires a stem change - the seatpost is a 27.2 and the bars I want to instal are 31.8; does anyone know a manufacturer of this diameter combo?

It might be easier and cheaper to purchase a bar that has a 26.0 clamp. I do not know if the combination you are looking for is available or not.

This should work for you. You will need a shim, but we have used with 27.2 seatpost with great success.

That is a good choice if you want an adjustable stem, however if a standard stem will work then you can buy a new stem that is the correct length/angle and use a shim to adapt it to your 27.2 seatpost. That is exactly what we did.

Control Tech & Dimension both offer 29.8 w/shim x 31.8
Co-Motion's is probably a re-branded Dimension.
Depending on how much length and rise you need for the stoker stem, you may also be able to use a longer (150mm) threadless stem.
