I'm back! 30 days and 1400 miles, with 9 days spent hanging around with different family members of our 3-man group. We biked from North Adams, MA in the northwest corner of the state all the way to Provincetown, on the tip of cape cod. Then we biked up the coast to Acadia National Park in Maine. After that, we crossed Maine the fat way along Rt. 2 into the White Mountains, rode the Kancamagus Highway into the Green Mountains of VT, and then crossed Vermont north to south to complete our loop in North Adams.
The trip was everything I thought it would be and more. We climbed two mountains, did a 100-mile day and several 80-mile days, biked nonstop for 2 weeks straight, and camped the entire way when we weren't with family. I learned bike maintenance, navigation, and a lot about myself.
Next trip is South America!
The rig was a glowing success. It's a Raleigh Port Townsend with a larger 9-speed cassette. This cassette wasn't perfectly compatile and was finicky the entire trip, so I'll be switching it for a 3-ring crank when I upgrade my components. I lived out of that drybag for a month and never had a problem. The extra bag on top of it was a sleeping bag I picked up 4 days into the trip because I was sleeping cold- lesson learned.
Thanks to everyone on these forums that helped me get started with my first tour. I did bring the DSLR, and took over 1400+ pictures during the trip. Check out my Flickr for the nicer looking ones!
