I love using "old-fashioned" time forms when telling the time to digital time people. They is dumb(both sexes).

Something along the lines of:

java.text.DateFormat outdf = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("h:mm a");
System.out.println(outdf.format(new java.util.Date()));

But most often, it's logged server-side to a file using a log4j pattern.

I use half past/quarter past/til.
I also say day of the week followed by the word, week. Example--I'm leaving Friday week. Which means not this Friday but the following Friday.
I've never used fortnight.
