I was gifted an early 90's Bianchi Project 5 (one of the first 29er-esque bikes made). It has a nice lugged cro-mo frame with flat bars and friction shifters. It has an Alivio 7 speed der in back and I'd like to fit it with drops and put some cyclocross tires on the 700 wheels to make sort of a poor man's cross bike.
The two options I'm considering are moving the thumb shifters to the top of some older drops I have and putting on some road levers or buying a cheap 7 speed brifter off eBay (I know the old stuff isn't cheap but there is a Sora version bouncing around for about $35). What are the errors in my thinking? Other options that would work better?
