So I'm leaving work the other day. Have a 4-way stop by the parking garage. Fixie rider comes blasting down the hill, blows the stop sign and damn near runs me over as I'm in the intersection. He was at least 50 yards away when I stepped into street. He never even turned his head to see if any cars were around at any of the stop signs or street. I yelled at him that was a stop sign and all us riders pay the price when people do that. He didn't even pause and kept going.
Granted, I don't get the whole trend of riding in skinny jeans on an uncomfortable day-glo bike with 12" wide handlebars with no helmet as you rush to drink your PBR, but I really don't get why a disproportionate number of fixie riders have zero regard for anyone or anything other than themselves. Can a Foo explain that? I mean really.....

I would have gone to the fixie forum, but of course I would be in the wrong for wearing a helment, following laws, etc. And of course for having a higher than minimum wage job, drinking beer that actually tastes good and wearing clothes that fit.

Fixie riders are better than everyone else. It's scientific fact.

This is why you should pack heat.

The worst is when a Sunday peloton of roadies runs a stop sign. A single fixed gear rider is much easier to dodge ;) .

Plus that group ride is like 20 A-holes in a row, so as you can imagine I've seen way more rude roadies than rude fixie bros.

Around here, the roadies that tend to ride as a group cross as a group. They stop as a group and proceed through an intersection as a group. If seperation occurs, then the next group stops. They are prety good at policing themselves.

It is the single riders that I see blowing stop signs. I stop if ANY sort of traffic is in sight. I slow down regardless to a few miles per hour and then proceed based on observation.

'bent riders have a low rudeness quotient, all other cycle genres are open to criticism.

Roadie posses would blow the stop sign and even the new traffic signal near my old apartment all the time. I think the T intersection made them think it was OK.
