In upgrading my bike I was thinking I might keep my old crankset for now - but I imagine I would likely need a new set of chanrings in moving up to a 9 speed. What am I looking for in chainrings that would 9 speed compatible? Thanks in advance

What do you have now?
For a brief time, I was using a cottered double off an early 70's 10 speed with a 9 speed cassette and had no issues.

After more researching, I ran into several stories about folks who converted 27" tire frames to 700 CC. There were ocassional problems with striking using the original 170mm crankset. I decided to go ahead and buy the 165mm Shimano Sora Triple chainring Crankset that is supposed to work with 9 speed chain.

I don't know why there would be a problem if you converted 27" wheels to 700c. 700c wheels are smaller in diameter than 27" by 8mm. If there was a problem with toe overlap after the conversion, it was worse before
