Hello new to the forum I deferentially not a pro rider. I came here looking advise for a nice comfort bike just to ride around with the kids. Right now I have the worst ever bike bought at target it's a magna. This bike is just horrible and do not even feel comfortable on it several time I felt like I was losing control of my bike. I bought it when money was really tight years ago. I want a nice bike to ride around. Can I get a nice bike for under $300 please don't laugh ok laugh. I understand people on here have the best of the best I'm not really looking for this but not another crummy bike. Thanks for reading...

They sell good bikes.

My friend has 66,000 miles on his Windsor bike.

He rode it 750 miles for his 75th Birthday

Recommend that you have a bike shop check it out when you get one.

The only problem with BikesDirect is that you can't try the bike to see if it fits before you buy it.

Yes I understand this I know it stinks you cant try them out. They do have a height chart for the bike that fits you. Still would be nice to try it out. I'm unsure what to do. If I buy at a bike shop I'm going to spend a lot. Wheel and sprocket here in Wisconsin has trek bikes but there 500 and up I really don't want to spend that much. I wife needs a bike too so it twice the price. Is fall a good time to buy bikes are they marked down?

It's that time of year where the new models come out so if you look at the LBS you can get some good deals on leftover bikes.

Greg,

Welcome!

Riding with the kids is a nice way to ride, I think.

My most commonly used bike for this is my commuter modified mid-90s Trek MTB. It has more of an upright position than my road bike so I can better see where everyone is, and I can make quick turns if one of my kids darts right in front of me. Such bikes abound on CL. Find one that fits you anddon't be afraid to hold out or the one.

10 Wheels has got the right idea, check on craigslist. I just got my 79 Nishiki for $160.00, just be sure it's in strong shape if you get an old one like I did.

If your bike is horrible in that it doesn't fit you well, I would be hesitant to buy your next bike online. Craigslist is a good place to look and once the weather gets colder the prices will likely go down. That Gary Fisher that 10 wheels linked to on Milwaukee CL would, if it fits you, be a huge improvement over the Magna and would likely provide you years of enjoyment.

I am 6'3" and my height is mostly in my legs, so bike fit is a huge deal for me. I don't buy if I can't check the fit first.

No I just meant it is poorly made. It is a cheap bike so it is what it is. More suitable for my 13 year old. She seams to like it So shes riding around on my wife's magna. My wife and I bought these bikes years ago. We never rode them much. Would be nice to have a nice bike. I'm not to worried about ordering online they have a height chart. I will pay a lot more at a bike shop plus I'm pretty handy I can adjust it if need be true up the wheels tighten the brakes that's easy stuff.
