Is this worth the money for my first fixed gear? I want something that's good quality but not to pricy. Is this a good buy or should I wait til the regular TT is available?

It's a good bike. If you want to order a bike now, buy that one. If you don't mind waiting and you want to save some money, wait until the regular is available. They're not vastly different.

What size should I get? I'm 5'10 195lbs? 53 or 55?

ThermionicScott

Weight isn't a factor in bike fit unless you're really big.

Based on his limited experience with other frames, this 5'8" guy would probably get a 55 or 57.

I'm 31in inseam, so 50 I guess. Does that sound about right, even of I'm 5'10.

Inseam matters very little when choosing a frame size. Why don't you use the fit calculator from post #7 and be done with the guess work?

Do you like a very aggressive more aerodynamic position for maximum speed or do you like sitting up a bit more and looking around at traffic and sights?

Sitting up

Go with the French Fit, order the appropriate size and don't worry about it until it comes. Then do the last little adjustments and ride the hell out of it. It's a good looking bike. What color you going with?

That black will look nice. I don't know why, but for some reason, I really like the orange. I'm not usually an orange bike fan, but the cromed fork lugs and socks make it looks like a really nice motobecane (the real ones) from the 70's and the nicest of those were always orange in my mind.

Carol O'Halloran, mmm, always my favorite. Best jazzhands of the series. I can't stop staring at the logo on her unitard, it actually says "Jazzersize me".

Yeah, sometimes people can be less than helpful around here. But that is only because they see the same questions over and over again.

Anyways, post your measurements here. Make sure you are measuring in cm, not inches. Cm is more accurate, 2.54 times more accurate. Measure each 3 times and take the average. Then post all your results here.

You probably won't want the french fit. That puts you on a bigger bike, which will stretch you out a bit. Some people like that though. There is a lot of preference in what size bike you like to ride. Just like with clothes. Some people like super tight shirts, some people like shirts that are a bit loose, some like really loose shirts. Obviously you don't want a shirt so large that it is dragging on the floor, or so small that your whole stomach is showing. Same with bikes, you don't want one extremely small, or extremely large.

Unless you're 14 and it took you the whole summer to save up $300, then don't worry so much about your 1st bike. You will most likely be eying something new after a few months anyway. Anything from bikes direct is a great value, though.

The OP asked about a KILO TT. Of course it's worth the ****ing money, it's THE bike that gets recommended here so often it's become a meme unto BFSSFG.

I mean, really?

Maybe, maybe not. I'm definitely an "Eddy/French Fit" kinda guy. :thumb:

No way to really know what size you want without understanding and using a fit calc or being able to try them out in person. In any case, it sounds like we are almost the exact same size (I'm almost 5' 10" and have just under a 32" inseam, although no idea about the other measurements). I tried a 55 tt I found on craigslist and it felt great when I was up on it, but the top tube was just a little too high for me to feel comfortable - I would have to make sure I always wear thick soled shoes. So, I'm pretty sure the 53 would be perfect. If I was forced to guess, you would probably be the same, but who knows, it really depends on how you want the bike to fit. The track frame has a shorter wheel base so you won't be as stretched out as you would on a road frame of the same size. Also, keep in mind the tt is measured center-center and not center-top as most bikes are. My $.02, which are probably worth less than that.

Thanks Jimbo. I ordered a 55. We'll see how things go once I get it.

All he said was that she "doesn't fit the traditional mold of fitness". Whether you like it or not, that's the truth.

Yep. Making an accurate assessment about the culture surrounding humanity's evaluation of fitness doesn't automatically make us pigs.

Also, I like fat chicks.

What's traditional? The last 25 years?

Try 50 or so.

[edit]: Hell, try 90. The flapper girls of the '20s were stylized as completely androgenous under their ultra-fem clothing.

Rootzilla
09-03-12, 12:40 PM
Yeah, that's one ideal. But can it be said traditionally dominant? My point was that the "mold" for physical fitness was not always so interested in minimal body fat.

striknein
09-03-12, 12:52 PM
I would argue that what is "traditionally dominant" could be interpreted as that which is most commonly portrayed in media at the time, or in posterity. To that effect, yes, flapper girls were the traditionally dominant idea of beauty in the 1920s and on.
