Track Cycling: Velodrome Racing and Training Area - GT Superbike

anyone know where to find information on the GT superbike, as used by the usa olympic team in 96 and 00. both the endurance and sprint models. i am doing a bit of research and just wanted to know where i could find some information. thanks

I tried looking for you. As you're probably aware, there's not a whole lot out there. I'm sure there are a load of them hanging in Colorado Springs collecting dust. If you want real information, I'd try contacting a member of the Feds who was involved in the track program at that time. Don't bother going through the current Fed. You'll have a hard time getting a hold of anyone willing to share the time and information.

A superbike? No. Those have been illegal since a little after '96 Olympics. I was riding a regular GT frame. They are the frames the national team used up until this year when they switch to Look. They are the ones that are now made by Tiemeyer.

what type of info are you looking for?
because it was a fairly secretive project, there isn't much info just dancing around out there...most info will have to come from the minds of those involved.

basic info like geometry and also i wanted to see any aerodynamics data but yeah there isnt a whole lot around

I believe the USCF had 2 "Superbike" projects. The bike on fixedgeargallery is from the first project.
Pre-1996 were Tiemeyer's frames http://www.tiemeyercycles.com/default.html David Tiemeyer builds excellent racing machines and is known the world over for his design and attention to custom fit. Many of the National team's "GTs" were built by him.
The Superbike II program was for the '96 Olympics (Atlanta) at a cost of $30,000 (?) per bike. These bikes were problematic to say the least... But very hot to look at. Does anyone remember Rebecca Twigg throwing hers (literally) to the ground in favor of riding her own Hooker Elite Kilo Bike? Interesting story... But I digress. The Superbike II did not fly and some of them can still be found here and there. I'm sure they still have a few in Colorado Springs... One of the local retailers (Mark at Cycle Smithy 773.281.0444) also has one (or had one) last year when USAC auctioned off some of their old equipment. You might want to try contacting him for more information. I'll try to attach an image (bad photo of a poster I have) to verify the model you're speaking of...

True- The Lotus bikes are far superior.
