Hi to all Paul here from Auckland NZ I have just purchased the hand built F.W. Evans touring frame you see here, it is a mix of XT and STX cranks are Sram and need to go I have some shimano hollowtechs I may put on, also want to fit Butterfly type bars but will need to wait till they come up at a cheap enough price
Your thoughts suggestions would help hugely.

Yeah, that bike looks excellent! Does it fit you well?

Only three things I can see to upgrade:

1. Your decision to get a butterfly bars is a good one.
2. Saddle: Try a Brooks B17. It's the #1 choice for touring saddle (super comfy!) It won't fit everyone, but you should try it though. They keep the resale value if you don't like it.
3. If you'll be doing light touring in country the rack is just OK. Otherwise a steel rack like a Tubus might be a better choice down the road.

With a little fiddling in the stem and bar area will have it perfect, it rides like a bike built by a very driven builder its 15 years old and it rides like new, after having already toured most of Europe(I don't know what parts) and parts of Asia with the previous owner, so I need to do it some justice here in NZ.
It is a very well made well thought out bike with a really strong groupset, it all feels perfect. I have a B17 narrow in brown and a B72, so I will use one of those this summer.
The previous owner had 2 made one for him and one for his wife, she still uses hers and I have asked him to give me first option and he said he would!! Yes.

I doesn't say Surly on it.....It won't work.

Nice ride.......Evans makes some nice bikes.Maybe just the picture but that thing looks like it has a long top tube for a short frame.
