Can anyone recommend a free 3-D solid modeling software that is similar to Solidworks? I use SW at work but want to fool around on the weekend with a few little projects.

Check out:
3DVIA Shape (http://www.3dvia.com/products/3dvia-shape/) - easiest to use.
FreeCAD (http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/free-cad/index.php?title=Main_Page)
BRL-CAD (http://brlcad.org/)

There's Blender (http://www.blender.org/), but it's more all purpose than just modeling. Blender 3D Basics (http://link.packtpub.com/e6PPj6) is a good book to get you started.

Have you tried Google Sketchup? It's a bit simplistic, but it is free and can import and export DXF.

Thanks for all these suggestions. I'm going to try 3DVIA first since it's sold by the same company as Solidworks, i.e. Dasault. I might need more RAM.
