What is everyones feelings with regards to tooth count, front and rear? Being odd count front and rear should distribute the wear evenly. It would also have the benefit of reducing premature tire failure by ensuring that the skid point is different.

I can't think of a positive for even count cogs/rings.

Do a search, there was a lengthy thread discussing this with lots of calculations and discussion. It's not even tooth counts that are the key.

I was hoping that this thread was going to have pictures of missing teeth after face plants. There hasn't been much gore here recently. Oh well.

Hi, long time reader first time poster. Another fixie rider in SF (Judah) said I should check out the forums, so anyway...

My Serotta is geared 47/19. This pretty much distributes the wear evenly over the tire, cog, chain and ring. 47 and 19 are both prime, so it takes a lot of revolutions for the same chain link to hit the same cog/ring tooth or for the same skid patch to strike again.

i'm bad at math so... 52-19 = 19 skidding patches cause 52 is not a multiple of 52?

yeah, come on out, it's a good time!
speaking of which, is it too early to start a thread for the next sf fg ride?
or maybe i should just resurrect ostro's "sf fg cm" thread

sf fg cm thread would be fine. I'm not sure I can make it on a Friday night but I'll try. A Saturday or Sunday morning would be good. </hijack>

I'm going on a century ride Saturday morning with my girlfriend, but Sunday morning/afternoon would be good. She wanted to go to Hellyer tomorrow, but I need some distance... :)
