OK. Time for the other side of the story. We read countless reports of cyclists getting killed by autos on this forum. There are so many reports that a skeptical newbie might view cycling as a very dangerous activity.

So I am curious to see how many of you have been killed by a car while riding your bike. Please spare us your near miss stories. Chances are we have already read your story on here before. Repeat.....

I am only interested in hearing the stories of those of you that have been killed.

Maybe that is because you are dead. This thread is designed to illustrate that a few of us actually make it through alive.

Finally, a way to communicate with the world.

1968, I was riding the wrong way on a one way street and hit a '67 Chevy head-on. I never knew what hit me. It was 6 AM, and I had on black clothes with the Sun behind me. I was listening to my eight track with headphones - and of course I never wore a helmet. I've learned my lesson and you should learn it too.

Twice.
The first time was in LA. I was riding down a hill and the car next to me turned right. The last thing I remember is screaming like a little girl. When I hit the front fender the stem snapped and impaled my sternum.
DOA
The second time was in Paris as I was riding along a busy road and a taxi broadsided me from a side street. I flew across the street and probably would have survived but before I hit the ground the driver of a parked car opened his door and shot me back into the street like a pinball. I remember raising my head just in time to see a pair of headlights bearing down on me. All I could think of was "Man, I hope that's two Vespas"
Enjoy

Did they HAVE helmets in 1968? Wait - did they have bicycles in '68? No wait - did they have the Sun in '68?

My ego gets killed every time I ride with riders who are faster than me. Does that count? :D

The worst part about being a dead cyclist is the smell.

Mine was painless. 1968 - got creamed by a rock band's tour bus in SF. Partly my fault - was doing LSD at the time and wandered in front of it, drawn towards the psychedlic artwork on the front of the bus. Tires ran over me so violently I was squished and flattened into a storm grate. As I rose away I could see the unrecognizable mess that was once me and my bike completely smooshed over the entire grate.

Grate full. Dead. ;)

My spirit has been crushed and I've lost the will to live from working for The Man. The Man drives to work. Does this count?

The car tried but I survived. The paramedic said " I think this one is gon na refuse"
they dropped me and my bike at the firehouse and I finished my ride. True story, honest.

Yeah, but just wait until you're dead, and you add decomposition on top of your normal BO...

Don't even get me started on the maggots.

I actually thought of this thread once.

Then I realized it would be difficult for anyone to answer in the affirmative.

Yup, I'm still alive, but from what I've read (and heard) on occaision, you'd think that some think they've died 3 times over. Geez!

That was sort of the point. I wanted to establish the fact that cycling is not inherently deadly. Looks like i failed. Fortunately it looks like if you are killed, your spirit can't be stricken from the internet. Maybe this place is the heaven that they keep speaking of???

Rather than indicating heaven is the Internet, the fact that as of this writing 41.30% of the respondents voted yes indicates that about 41.30% of the people in this forum are smart *****es.

Howdy,
If the people that answered "Yes" are smart *****es, Does answering "No" make me a du..... oh forget it...

I was on a Critical mass Ride and was shouting "God damn the man!" while riding my tallbike when sixteen Republican policemen in a Hummer ran me down. The worst part is that they let me die, then revived me and now run me over and kill me the last Friday of every month. The rest of the time, I am recuperating from being killed, with my eyelids wedged open a la Clockwork Orange so that I cannot stop watching the 700 Club.

Also, they hate women and puppies. And cyclists.

Yes I rode a penny farthing in a former life and was hit by a stein of beer thrown at me by a teenager on a horse. The fall from the seat to the ground was sufficient to break my neck, after my head was mashed in because my cap was unable to sustain the blow.

Fell off this very morning: slipped on ice and BAM! my fragile papier-mache skull split open like an overripe melon and that was it for me, dead dead deadski.

Or maybe I just bruised my arse and walked away. Hard to tell in this drunken stupor.

A better question might be, "How many motorists have died in a crash?"

No, we can't go there, it would be "disrespectful."

...that's about all I remember.

Yep, I'm dead. Got bored down there under all that dirt, so I clawed my way out ans started spinning.
Whenever I ride by, all the kids yell out, "Hey freaky freaky zombie biker dude!" Pretty cool, except I can't get that putrid smell out of my shorts.
Hahaha this is ridiculous, pretty funny.

And once, before the car thing, a rapid raccoon attacked me and sucked my brain out through my nose.

That hurt.
