Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 197_ Windsor Profesional track frameset

I've been lusting after something vintage and have an opportunity to pick this up for 300 bucks:

I believe it's a 1973 but I'm not certain. I know it's been repainted from the original molteni orange and has a fresh set of decals from Cyclomondo. I do know a little bit of history about these frames and that it was made of Columbus SL tubing in Mexico by an ex-Cinelli framebuilder - when Windsor was owned by Acer-Mex Corporation - and are often referred to as "the poor man's Cinelli". Track ends are Campy and the BB is Italian-threaded.

Worth it or should I put away my wallet?

Seems like an OK deal, if it's made with SL. Might be helpful to measure the seatpost size and weight the frame.

It seems OK to me if your going to use it as a track bike. If your looking for a 'fixie' for looking cool on the streets I would just get a new bike from bikes direct.

Dear "Bianchi Goddess" - there's really no need to be so condescending. I am a near 40 year old bike shop owner who rides fixed and want to build something vintage because I thoroughly love bicycles and appreciate quality, not some bratty kid looking to impress my friends at the local coffee shop.

Seatpost is 26.8. I'm waiting to hear back from the seller regarding the weight.

I think she may have been "judging a book by its cover" a bit too. Understandable, I suppose - by looking at her bikes, I would have thought she was an aging Fred with arms like a praying mantis.

BTW, I bought it.

Good buy. Hard to find a quality, vintage lugged track frame under 500$.

I did not read Bianchigirl's post as a looking down upon either. The original poster has many posts, states he is a bike shop owner who is either 40 or has owned a shop for 40 years, and not an english major. I would ask, why did the guy selling the bike not take a file and some emery cloth to the bottom bracket before sending it out for a respray?
Beyond that, a resprayed track bike just speaks "Hi, I'm Windsor, I'm hiding a top tube dent / prior crash but doesn't my new paint look so nice?" to me.

For what it's worth, he sent me very detailed pics of the frame before it was repainted and the only issues were the original orange paint and chrome lugs were in pretty rough shape - which is understandable considering it's a 30-something year old frame. The BB shell also looked like that before the respray, which is fairly common of Windsors from that era.

Since you had before pics, no secrets on this one. That would have been my only concern. You did well. Vintage track frames do extremely well. Although I am not a fan of repaints, this one looks to be a very high quality repaint.

There are repaints, and then there are decent repaints that respect the bike. I think this is the later. There are certainly situations where a respray is warranted.

Agreed. I hate repaints, but that's because repaint (to me) is synonymous with an idiot wielding a spray can (or worse, a powder coat!) If it's a professional job which this clearly is then I think Scrod did very well on it. I'm sure he'll build it up into an excellent ride.

I agree. I do wish it was repainted molteni orange but I have always been very fond of wheat gold.
