I want to buy a new cycling computer that I can use for both Road biking and mountain biking. However, I mountain bike a lot under heavy foliage and wonder if the Garmin will really work well. I have used smartphone gps apps before to track maps but lose coverage inside the woods.

Any thoughts and/or recommendations?

I've got an edge 500 that I bought for the road bike but also use on the mtb. I ride tree covered trails and have not had any problems.

Same here...I ride both and have no issues
