Someone posted this trek up on craigslist last night..and, I can't seem to get any more info from the seller except that it has 10 gears and that she bought it in San Francisco a couple of years ago. I very quickly tried bikepedia..vintagetrek..but couldn't quite find anything..
I saw the barcons and thought that it may be a tourer but, I'm really not so sure at all. I figure you guys will be able to date + categorize this way faster than me.
Also, they are asking for $300..i'll be checking it out tonight. Thanks again.

Not a touring bike, someone just put barcons on a Trek racing bike.

Black with pink letters is an early 90's 1200, aluminum. should have shimano 105 or equivalent on it, I think. Looks like a 19 inch frame.

replacement fork (?). Check frame for damage if so....

Or someone polished the original aluminum fork. To me the fork looks correct on a carbon tubed Trek of that era.
It's not a touring bike but worth $300 if in good condition IMO.

Sorry Vintage-Trek.com says Black with Magenta would be a 1989 1200, not early 1990's. Here is one I sold a while ago.

My mistake, on that craptastic pic, and the alloy front fork, I was thinking it was one of the bonded carbon Treks. I think OJ has it nailed, its a 1200. Still not a touring bike. In a market like NYC, it will probably sell at that price.

Top tube in Craigslist pic has 6 letters. There was a time when trek had "carbon" on the TT. Shaded/shadowed decals like those came in the STI era.

It's not an aluminum 1200. It's a carbon tubed frame. Those aren't magenta decals, they're purple. And if you look closely you can see the contrast between the black colored main tubes and purple everything else (head tube, "lugs", and stays.)

I think bonded carbon also. Looks like purple headtube, seatcluster,BB with clearcoated carbon tubes.
Maybe 94-95 2120?

Its hard to till much from the pic the bike looks to be a early 90's sports model based on colors with a 18 speed drivetrain not 10speed I can see a triple in the front and the back looks to 6 maybe 7 speeds. If it's in good rideable condition it should be worth the $300 price considering the market and small size.

Reasonable price in this market. I'd try to talk them down $50.
