I have this hub on my BikeFriday tandem. I disassembled it to clean and re-grease it. In putting it back together, there is a round washer that is not in the schematic for the hub, so I am wondering where it goes. I have attached a picture of the parts that shows the hub disassembled and the washer in question is circled in red. I have also attached the schematic for the hub. If anyone can help me with the location, I would appreciate it.
I also have a question about lubrication during reassembly. I know I should grease the planetary gears, the mating surface inside the cup for the planetary gears, the retained bearings, and the gear on the axle. Phil's oil on the pawls. What do I do inside the hub shell to the surface the pawls will strike? Anything?
Thanks for your help.
Mike..

The older version of the 3X7 had a little washer, 14A:

My 3 speed IGH, an SA AW3, I grease the axle bearings,
on the rest a squirt of Phil Tenacious oil in the indicator chain hole in the axle,
occasionally, is apparently adequate..

Back in the day when there was a oil cup in the hub shell,
a light machine oil was recommended.

as it leaked out past the axle bearings they got lubricated..
so the grease just retains the oil in side a little longer..

Not to be finicky, but have you asked Bike Friday? They're very knowledgeable about the Sachs/SRAM hubs, and have spare parts that SRAM doesn't supply.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts.
tcs, I found the same drawing. Interesting that the shell is different, but the internals the same. I was thinking of trying that arrangement.
Jeff, I have been in contact with Bike Friday. They are baffled as they just took a hub apart and no washer.

Hmmmm... interesting. Good of them to actually disassemble a hub and actually look, instead of relying on the diagram.

Is it possible it was under one of the locknuts to adjust the over-locknut spacing? I can't see it being added internally.

(FWIW: back when I was learning to overhaul 3-speeds [Schwinn School, 1980], we'd take them apart in order and keep the parts in roughly the proper relationship. For the final exam, we'd take 3 different hubs apart at the same time. Then the instructor would sweep the parts into a bucket and we'd go to lunch. After lunch, we had to reassemble the hubs. )

I don't believe so since I took a photo of the first few steps of dis assembly before the camera batteries died. I found an exploded diagram of a hub with the exact parts I have, only a different shell. Maybe mine was during a transition. Working a few other angles, if I come up with an answer, I'll post here.

Harsh but fair ;)

A mate once handed me a box of springs and other assorted small parts, said it was fishing reel and asked for my help.

Never worked on one before (or since) but an hour later I handed him a working reel :)
