Trying to find out the year and value of this gem for a friend, he is 82 and said it was purchased in 1942 for his Christmas gift. It is a 5 speed and has original parts except for tubes and tires. Any info would be great. He would like to sell it once we find a fair value for it.

Your 82 y/o friend's memory is a little fuzzy on this one. That bike is closer to 1972 than 1942. Value - sorry, can't help you much there, but I'm sure it wouldn't pull what a Schwinn Krate from the same era would, so it's not a gold mine.

Thank you for the input, we are going to call him and see if he has a different bike that is not pictured.
1960s/1970s department store bike, minimal value. Google 1940s bikes and you will see a striking difference.

CBC = Chain Bike Corporation. Same company that made Ross bicycles. They didn't exist before WWII, so obviously the bike is not from 1942. The BMA stickers first appeared in 1970, and disappeared in the late 70s.
It looks to be in nice condition, here in a college town where bikes of any sort fetch a premium, it'd be worth around $75-$100 assuming the tires, etc. are in good rideable shape. In a not so hot market, $25-$50 would be about right.
