I have been asked by a friend:

"Can a nuovo record crank (and chainrings of
course) along with a nuovo record derailleur be compatible with a current Campa chain and cassette setup?"

It is understood that the rear fork would probably have to be widened in any case. He wants to get new wheels in the bargain, as well as a cassette (to replace the freehub setup).

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers...Gary

Gary,
My understanding is that they are not compatible.
The new stuff is narrower to accomodate the
9 or 10 speeds. I understand the chain is narrower
and so are the teeth on both cassettes and chainrings.
However I'm not 100% on this one as I'm still stuck
on 6 speed and friction shifters!

The NR derailleur will work, if you use friction shifters.
You may have some trouble with the chain dropping between the chainrings, give it a try.
After you spread the rear triangle, check the dropout alignment.
